The Pieces of Mental Illness Recovery

Ketamine is a powerful tool to aid in your healing journey by providing symptom relief and perspective on your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. This helps you face the challenges in your life with more capacity.

The process does require work, but it is work worth doing. Recovery involves looking in depth at the four core areas where people experience disconnection. This diagram might be helpful to review which areas require the most attention in your life. It is important to begin with the areas you can control, rather than tackling everything at once. We encourage you to work with our clinic team or your individual therapist to create a road map for recovery. Once you have been feeling well consistently, our goal is for you to no longer require ketamine as you continue your healing journey.

Ketamine Treatment

About the Life-changing Treatment

We provide personal and personalized medicine; taking the time to get to know you to create treatment plans that meet your unique needs. Treatment plans and how we suggest patients engage with ketamine will therefore look different for everyone.

Ketamine how is it administered

A ketamine infusion allows the unhealthy neuronal pathways that are constantly “on” in your brain to turn off for a period of time.

Beginning

The Ketamine Treatment Processs

All patients begin by having a consultation with a MPH provider followed by a ketamine preparation session. Treatment plans typically begin with a period of weekly or bi-weekly ketamine treatment over the period of several weeks. This period is called initiation. Then during maintenance, you will receive a ketamine treatment every four to eight weeks on average. Our treatment team will then suggest other modalities to pair with ketamine that will help you keep these new thought patterns strong and healthy. This process usually takes somewhere between six months to two years.

How does it work?

The Science Behind Ketamine Treatment

One of the current theories being explored around how ketamine works centers around the Default Mode Network (DMN) in our brain. The DMN is a collection of brain regions that are connected to each other and are thought to involve internal mental state processes.

A ketamine infusion allows the unhealthy neuronal pathways that are constantly “on” in your brain to turn off for a period of time. One can consider all the unhealthy thoughts that continuously occur – such as automatic negative thoughts, obsessive thoughts, anxious thoughts, persistent pain – as unhealthy pathways. When your brain comes back “on-line”, you can then access the more healthy pathways or loops in your brain. Through the process of ketamine therapy your brain will start to grow new connections, re-wire and strengthen the healthy patterns that we are trying to maintain.

MPH Group Meetings

Michigan Progressive Health offers group meetings for our ketamine patients at no additional cost. These meetings give us the opportunity to hear how patients are feeling and progressing with the therapy as well as learning and sharing experiences with peer patients.

Each meetings are held online and lead by our Therapist, offering a comfortable, safe space for small group interaction (typically 6-8 patients). Patients and the MPH team come together and share feelings, thoughts, experiences and personal stories about their experiences with ketamine infusion therapy. We want to be an active member of your support network.

In creating a plan of care and growth, we may recommend additional tools, such as therapy, yoga, mindfulness, physical activity, dietary changes, connection to community and nature, and supplements. Informed by scientific evidence and inclusive of subjective experience, our clinic believes in the principles of communication and compassion to help you heal, empower, and integrate all parts of yourself to move toward wholeness.
